Chadwick Schmelz: perhaps you can go to nearest library and look for handyman magazine because they offer a lot of DIY (do it yourself) project. I am thinking to remodel my traditional backyard to a close area garden with modern touch.
Bettye Arre: every situation is different. if furnace and water heater are in your garage you will have to enclose them. supply fresh air to them through the doors. insulate the walls and ceiling, pull electric for lights and outlets. frame in or over the garage door, add windows (square ft of room determines the window size: search egress) drywall and flooring.your city building dept. will be helpful for details concerning your local codes. good luck
Sherrill Botting: Talk to your building inspector. There are codes which cover converting non-occupied space to occupied. Natural light must be taken into consideration, as well as electrical and HVAC issues. It's not a simple transformation, but it is very doable. Hope this he! lps.
