Matt Gerdeman: I´m studying my TEFL certificate in Spain. When I was a college student, I was an exchange student in Cuernavaca, Mexico. It is one of the best decisions I have ever made and it changed my life.Regarding money: Like most college students I struggled with $$$ and I didn´t think that study abroad was open to me until I talked to the study abroad staff. There is a myth that ¨study abroad is only open to wealthy students.¨ That´s baloney.MANY universities push students to study abroad during their junior or senior year. MANY universities strive to make sure that no student is denied the opportunity to study abroad because of inability to pay. You CAN use financial aid (Pell grants, scholarships, loans) to pay for your expenses on a study abroad program. My internship in Mexico didn´t pay enough for me to live, but I borrowed federal money and used it to pay for everything I needed during my year in Mexico. If your university doesn´t have a good study! abroad program, you can always transfer. That´s what I did because study abroad was a priority for me and one of the main reasons I went to college in the first place. My home university was University of North Carolina at Greensboro. In many respects, it´s an inferior school and I was unhappy at UNC-G. HOWEVER, I chose UNC-G because they have an EXCELLENT study abroad program. It´s the best in the state. The staff at the International Programs Centre are dedicated to making sure that NO STUDENT is denied study abroad because they can´t afford it. At UNC-G, if you´re in good academic standing, you can probably study abroad. Some programs are more competitive than others. For example, Australia is hard to get into. 1I was torn between Mexico and Spain... I was planning on studying in Madrid but then a Mexican student told me about Cuernavaca, Mexico, and I just fell in love with it. Mexico and Spain were my very first choices. You don´t HAVE to speak a foreign ! language to study abroad, but you will have the chance to lear! n and should take advantage.I studied at the Tec de Monterrey. They have ¨special classes JUST for exchange students who are learning Spanish. They test your level of Spanish and then place you in the corresponding program. If you speak Spanish, you also have the option of taking ¨regular¨classes. I took my Spanish placement test and got ¨regular¨classes with Mexican students. I´m not bragging, I have studied Spanish since I was five years old and for all practical purposes I´m a native speaker. :) (I was 24 at the time)There are things I would have done differently during my time in Mexico and there are things I didn´t do that I should have taken advantage of, but I made loads of friends. I have been to Mexico three times and will go back someday. I´m still in love with Mexico but open to new adventures as well. I will NEVER regret studying abroad in Mexico, nor will I EVER regret coming to Spain. Is there a particular country you are interested in?If itÂ! ´s mexico I could give you more information. Send me a private email if you are interested. I can´t promise to reply right away because schoolwork is really demanding, but I will try to get back to you soon. :)Saludos......Show more
Blaine Connett: Studying overseas is more often than not the exceptional factor you would do. Traveling to different international locations is exceptional, however you aren't getting an absolute consider of the tradition and society untill you are living there for a minimum of 1 / 4. You will be trained such a lot approximately special cultures and approaches of existence. It will particularly difference your existence. You will see America in a complete new gentle. You will particularly enjoy an additional nation and immersed in it. You may not be watching at it like a traveler, who sees it as though he used to be on the zoo looking. You will probably be residing it, and studying such a lot....Show more
