Why does Global Warming cause cold weather?

Tyree Allenbrand:

Dawn Saha: Climate and weather are two entirely different things. Some parts of the earth are getting warmer while other parts are getting colder. That's why the Sierra Nevadas, Rockies, Alps and Mt. Kilimanjaro are losing their snow caps. The southwest of the US that used to be covered with vegetation is now turning to desert. Meanwhile, the south, midwest and northeast are colder than usual. Global warming is causing changes in the ocean currents causing North American and Europe to become colder. Meanwhile the sea levels are rising due to the melting of the polar ice caps. We are seeing more and more extremes, including more severe and frequent storms....Show more

Cuc Gire:

Shaquita Wernicki: takes weather to the extreme! hotter summers colder winters.

Solomon Belback: 1

Ewa Homrich: It's either too freezing or it's too hot. Global warming takes climate change to the extremes.

Damion Oleksa: Explain why freezing ! rain more commonly occurs with warm fronts than with cold fronts?.

Gennie Shauer: I don't know where you live but its not snowing where I am. Global warming is a general trend. Year to year temperatures will always fluctuate but slowly the average temperature is rising.

Seema Hosfeld: Artic cold wave goes south hence the cold weather

Rubye Bonnin: Was wondering the same question

Rachell Meese: If Al Gore didn't make a couple hundred million on global warming publicity, if he donated just half to charity I would maybe listen to what he had to say. If there is global warming then the coolingmight be the earth just balancing things out. Its not the CO2 that we have to worry about its all the other toxic chemicals we are putting into the environment. Its sort of hard to believe there's global warming when its been snowing for the past 3 days. Yes it is ironic and will be expensive. I would definitely research the other side of the debate. Some people! believe its all about Power Moneyetc... The earth has been go! ing through natural warming and cooling cycles for millions of years in fact it might attract a lot of tourism if it got a little warmer around here and real estate prices will go up solving the real estate crisis. The other side of the debate also says that one Volcano emits more CO2 then man will ever produce. Algae in the ocean uses a lot of CO2 which fish eat reproduce and feed us. Also trees and jungles consume a lot of CO2 People produce a lot of CO2We need the truth. Its kind of confusing but I can't see so far that there is much global warming. Maybe I'm wrong who knows?...Show more

Doreatha Kjellsen: If you believe in global warming, you can just withdraw your life savings and put it in Al Gore's pocket! Because he's only in it for the money after the failed political career. Biggest con artist ever!

Buster Buchko: global warming doesn't cause snow. temperature and moisture does

Ivan Velazquez: it does? never knew that, answer my question plea! se!http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ApvnZ...

Tana Dumoulin: haha funny =)

Jade Ohno: co2 emissions

Claire Billegas: GW is a myth

Brenton Cornwall: Climate change causes more and more weather pattern extremes.

Buddy Ardd: Last summer, I had three cardiac arrests with only 2 percent chances of surviving but ... I did, and now I have an implanted cardiac defibrillator (ICD) that should kick me back in life if it happens again. At the age of 60, I had not taken care of myself. But today, I walk each day, in all kind of weather, four kilometers, as fast as I can ... here in cold Norway, and with the blessing of the doctors.Cold weather doesn't affect your heart. I am talking about the weather, not how you can survive hypothermia if you were e.g. to fall in the icy water of a Norwegian fjord.EDITED: Elizabeth, yes hypothermia is dangerous but it is not "cold weather," is it? Yes, we also have the "snow shoveling heart attack" syndrome in N! orway. But it is not "cold weather," is it? It could happen from shovel! ing ... summer rain if you had to do to to get to the office, couldn'it?...Show more

Jeannine Vassie: Do you not see the key word Warming ? It don't its all a front to gain money and praise for nothing. They have shown no proof and will not. What is going on is natural in the process that has been going on since the beginning.. Someone challenge me please and show us proof that has not been discredited.Still no proof that climate change is not a cycle that has gone on since the start of time. Its a process next they will be telling us that we are making a difference with the political carbon footprint we have. Ever notice the ones who preach "Global Warming" fly every where they go in private jets ?...Show more

Karl Samiec: Snow is a form of ice and ice crystals reflect and refract light, which some people call glitter or twinkle.

Giovanna Sherlin: The simple answer is reflection and refraction. It is the same properties that make diamonds glitter.Snow do! esn't glitter in absolute dark. And the frozen surface of the water acts like a crystal. When light hits it, 2 things can happen, reflection is when light is returned the way it came in. Refraction is when light is bent within the crystal (think of the rainbow and a prism). There are many surfaces to a snow flake and that light bounces around a lot both on the inside and outside....Show more

Cecil Derenzi: Freezing or undercooled rain is most frequent with the passing of a cold front; not a warm one. The reason is: In a cold front that is much, much steeper than a warm front, the mild and moist air from the warm sector is very quickly lifted by the cold and denser air moving in from under. As the moisture in that air condenses in unstable air masses, it comes down through the colder air from the cold sector of the front and can often be undercooled. This is of a danger to light aviation as the undercooled water then freezes at once on the leading edge of the wings! or propeller. But if you are talking about rain that freezes on the gro! und, then you are right, it happens mostly as a warm front moves in, often after a long period with a stationary high pressure, during the winter when the thermometer is under freezing point. The ground then freezes to some depth and when this is replaced by a low pressure with a warm front coming in from a temperature maritime source, then yes, the rain may freeze on the ground. ... But then, the rain is not freezing; it is only when it is on the ground that it does....Show more

Maurice Breuning: Snow Glitter

Star Gollnick: it blocks the atmosphere allowing less sunlight to beam onto the planet thus cooling down the planet in some areas. in the poles it destroys the atmosphere allowing in more sun thus melting the snow. worry more about melting snow then cooling down because snow plays a large part in cooling down earth. white deflects light and heat so when all the ice is gone its never coming back.. EVER!now help me out - click here - http://www.gumtree-winso! mewheels.com/individual_en......Show more

Chet Nozick: For it to snow, there has to be liquid water in the atmosphere that freezes. If it's too cold, there's no liquid water.

Maurice Breuning: Because it is made up of ice crystals. the light striking the different surfaces of the crystal is refracted and reflected (a bit like a diamond though cheaper!) as you move you see light coming off from different angles and that's glitter.

Virgilio Echter: The average global temperature changes by a fraction of a degree, which doesn't cause or prevent snow on any given day in any given place.

Marco Stolarz: because its opposite day

Tawny Grosskreutz: 2

Rocio Karvis: Snow glitters cause of the ice crystals being reflected in the rays of the sun.

Chastity Doderer: Warm air is less dense than cold air. (That is the reason why a hot air balloon will rise up when you heat the air inside. The heated air inside the balloon will become warmer and le! ss dense than the surrounding air and it will rise and lift the balloon! upwards.) With a warm front, warm moist air is moving into an area that has colder air. Since the warm air is less dense, the warmer air will go over the top of the cold air. This would mean the air near the ground would be colder that the air above. If the colder air near the ground is below freezing, the ground would also be below freezing. If you were to drop rain water through this, the rain will fall through the warmer air first. Then it will fall through a layer of air that would be below freezing just above the ground. If the water does not freeze into ice pellets or sleet before hitting the ground surface, it will likely freeze right after it hits the frozen surface. When that happens, you have freezing rain. With a cold front, colder air is moving into warmer air. With the colder air being more dense, it will lift the less denser warm air up. Precipitation that falls from the cold front usually starts off at the boudary where the warm air meets the cold air. So pr! ecipitation with a cold front will form at the boundary and will likely fall through the colder air only. So it will fall as rain if the colder layer of air is above freezing, will fall as snow if the colder air is below freezing, or will fall as a rain/snow mix if the air near the ground is just above freezing....Show more

Valentine Michaud: Hate to break you little heart but there is no such thing as global warming....about 30 years ago they said it was global cooling...but then it got warmer...and they decided to switch to global warming....kinda surprised they haven't switched back to cooling...if global warming was real they would bring back the electric cars...and actually make differences not these fake differences...Show more
